In the second half of the season every point is important. With the way this season has played out, this weekend looks to be a very important weekend if the Whalers look to keep the playoff streak alive.

There are 23 games remaining in the season for Plymouth and they travel to take on the Kitchener Ranger who are currently residing in the basement in the Western Conference. Saturday the Whalers come home to host the 9th place Sarnia Sting before taking the long bus trip to the Soo and facing the Greyhounds .

Things look to be in the Whalers favor for the first two games this weekend. The Rangers are 2-7-1 in the past 10 games and are currently on a five game losing skid (0-4-1) and the Whalers already beat them earlier in the season. The Sting are 2-6-0-2 in the past ten games and have a three game losing skid. Plymouth has not been able to get the best of the Sting as they have gone 1-2-0-1 in the four games against them this season.

What the Whalers don’t have going for them is the fact that they are the lowest scoring team in the league this season. Now with the 7-2 win against Saginaw on Monday, it’s possible that they have turned a corner and are playing a better game (if you disregard the game against Windsor on Saturday).

The Whalers need to win tonight and tomorrow. A win against the Soo would be nice as well, but let’s not be too hasty. The four points over the next two games are going to help the Whalers clinch a spot, albeit the bottom spot in the playoffs, and those points are easier to get now, rather than later.

Whalers will face Kitchener two more times before the season is over, and will head to Sarnia one last time this season. The Whalers control their postseason destiny and need to make this weekend count.
